Kart Racing

Nine hours sitting in an Ambulance. Not the most exciting day. But not the most boring day either.

The day came to a very early start. Had to meet at the station by 0745. I have to admit that I did contemplate just not going. But a commitment is a commitment.

It was pretty awesome getting to ride on an Ambulance though! Can't wait until I can drive one!

Nothing too interesting today. A graze. A back pain. And a very bruise, possibly broken hand.

The first two hours of the races had my head turning from side to side. Following the karts as they passed before us. However, the last two hours had me reading my book. As the novelty had worn off.

It was indeed an interesting experience.

This week has not been too bad of a week. Just lectures. No clinicals. Throughout the week, I've forgotten what has made me happy each day. However, Tuesday wasn't a particularly exciting day as I had to do a 15 minute presentation in front of the whole Christchurch/Nelson kids and supervisors. Not being much of a public speaker, I was nervous as. I was last up, and everyone was getting to the point where they just wanted to leave. But they very patiently listened to mine and appeared interested in the topic as I tried to relate it to the recent earthquake events. So I was very happy to get that out of the way.

That night, attended my first Mental Health discussion group at the invitation of my last supervisor. And they wanted me to present to them at the next meeting also. Nerves. Talking in front of people who knows way more about it than I do. Sigh.

The rest of the week seemed to pass rather quickly. With St John training on Wednesday night. And a night off on Thursday. Most of the afternoons and nights have been occupied by vigorously trying to finish our research project which ended up being 52 pages long. Yeah. Bam!

Friday was a pretty awesome day. Got everything printed and bound. Ready to be sent off. Then went over to Canterbury University to attend a few random lectures. Dissociation identity disorder is complex and interesting at the same time. The whole 300 level lecture, although two hours long, was enjoyable. However, the 200 level personality disorder lecture wasn't as good as the 300 level lecture.

Got the bank account for our road trip sorted on Saturday morning and also got myself the new All Black RWC2011 Jersey. MEAN AS!

Got St John stuff tomorrow morning. 0745. No sleep in... =[ But it should be fun. Motorsports FTW!

Let these stones speak

Rummaging through my old photos, I come across these. Taken at the Cathedral Square, which now no longer exists. Will the their love, their story, told by these stones, cease to exist because the stones are no longer there? Does love need material witnesses to prove that it once existed?

Let it begin...

So this is a new approach. My last blog was a way for me to vent out my frustration, anger and sadness. But this time around, I'm going to focus on the happy things in my life. Things that make me smile. Things that motivate me. Things that may perhaps make you happy too.

Today. Was. An. Amazing. Day.

I decided that it was time to put procrastination on hold, and to work on my bucket list. And one of the things that I really want to do, is to see the sunrise. So I told C and L about this, and they were keen to come along. So at 0530, I picked up C and we headed out to New Brighton. Slightly unsure of where we were going, we eventually got there just in time. There is no words to describe the amazing feeling of watching the colours of the sky change, as the world around you slowly wakes. You see the sun float from the surface of the water. It was just amazing. And knowing you get to watch the world around you waken, is just wow.

L joined us just before the sun began to rise. Being the snap happy people that we are, we took advantage of the view and opportunity. It was so much fun. Being kids again. Climbing on everything we could possibly climb on. Taking pictures that were both silly, yet amazing. Being able to do this with my friends, made me happy.

During our time at the beach, C spotted a stranded fish from the pier. Being the good hearted person that she is, she urged me to go save the fish. So I ran down to the beach to check out the fish. It was a massive fish. I'm not usually a big fan of fishes, but C's 'aww' and 'save it' made me try. I found myself a 'Rafiki stick' and attempted to move the fish back into the ocean. After about five minutes, we finally got the fish back into the ocean and said goodbye to it as the wave came in. Being able to save a helpless being made me happy. Succeeding in doing so, made me happy.

After we've had our session at the beach, we headed over to breakfast, where we caught up with people whom we haven't seen in a while. It was good to just catch up and laugh. This made me happy.

On walking back to the car, while cutting through the garden, a little girl about 4 years of age, rides along in her bike with her father behind her. Cheerfully she said to me 'Hello!' even though I blatantly had headphones on. Her cheerfulness and amazing smile made me happy. Her smile and happiness was just contagious.

With every sunrise, it is a brand new day. Let us face this brand new day, with a brand new attitude.
